Community Resource Research volunteer

Growing the National Resource Database

Using your internet detective skills, help us ensure that vital community connections in our national database are accurate and up to-date.

Connecting the community on a national and local level

The LGBT National Help Center maintains the largest LGBTQ+ resource database in the world with multiple search categories to help provide vital connection between individuals and the community at large.  With nearly 19,000 entries and growing, we need to ensure that all these resources are up to date.

Resources are critical in support conversations through our national hotlines, chats and email programs.  The database is also fully available to the public at www.LGBTnearMe.org so that anyone seeking local community can at their own leisure.

Community Resource Research Volunteers play an incredibly important role in helping office staff maintain the integrity of the information we provide.

Much of our updating will be online and volunteers will use their internet know how to find current and accurate information.  Along the way volunteers keep their eyes open for any new resources to add to the database.

BOTH NATIONAL & LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS UTILIZE LGBTNEARME AS A CRITICAL RESOURCE TO CONNECT THEIR COMMUNITIES

RESOURCES OFFERED DURING OUR PEER SUPPORT CONVERSATIONS CAN OFFER CALLER CONTINUED CONNECTIONS AND SUPPORT ONCE THE CALL IS OVER

INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE NOT READY OR ABLE TO CALL CAN STILL FIND CONNECTIONS AND LOCAL AID THROUGH LGBTNEARME AND THE RESOURCES YOU HELP TO KEEP UP TO DATE

Straight allies and anyone in the LGBTQ+ community who are 18 and over are encouraged to apply.

You can make a difference and help grow the collective resource knowledge of the entire community.

While updating resources you may come across resources that are ADULT in nature, organizations and resources that aid in difficult situations such as abuse and suicide, and other resources that may for some cause stress. While websites are rarely graphic, it is important to recognize that some small percent of resources may be of a nature that can be unsettling. If this is something you are concerned with please bring it up during the interview with staff.

This volunteer position offers a chance to help those in the community find connections and resources to uplift and help their lives. We also see it as a chance for the volunteer to also become more familiar with the greater LGBTQ+ community and it’s many and varied connections points. We hope you find it as exciting as we do!

I understand and accept the statement above.*
